Academic English language and skills for agriculture, forestry, agroforestry and related disciplines

This 60-hour ESAP course includes 20 units of materials for a class of 10 academic learners.

Earth English Academic has been specially-developed to provide:

  • A wide range of technical vocabulary related to a number of land management themes.
  • An introduction to the Academic Word List.
  • Clear explanations of the most common grammatical structures and features used in academic speaking and writing.
  • Authentic academic and specially-written texts to develop a range of academic reading skills for efficient research.
  • Authentic academic and formal audio/video materials to enhance listening skills for extracting relevant data and information.
  • Opportunities to take part in informal discussions, seminar discussions and give presentations with feedback from a native English speaker.
  • Guidance and practice in academic writing skills for planning, structuring, academic style, cohesion, editing and correcting academic texts and presentation materials.
  • A qualified teacher of English to speakers of other languages with experience in teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at universities in the UK and mainland Europe.
  • The development of a range of academic skills which are invaluable for academic study and transferable to the workplace.
  • Engaging, serious tasks and materials to provide a professional learning experience.

Earth English Academic can be taught as:

  • Part of a pre-sessional programme (4 – 10 weeks)
  • An extra-curricular in-sessional programme (10 weeks)
  • A specialist academic English module as part of a foundation programme (10 weeks)*
  • A specialist academic English module as part of an undergraduate degree programme (10 weeks)*
  • An extra-curricular, ‘stand-alone’ programme (4 – 10 weeks)

*these options may require validation by the academic board of your institution.
